Some wounds carry no visible shape.

Or perhaps, they are the ones we have never dared to face, yet they remain quietly held in the body's memory.

We are so used to acting unaffected the moment we are hurt or worn down, rushing to move on.

But the hollow left inside does not close simply because we choose to look away from it.

Perhaps we all need to admit that some pain takes time to settle.

Cistus grows on barren, rocky ground, and under the harsh sun it releases its own resin as protection — in earlier times, that resin was used to help close wounds.

Its scent does not announce itself. At first it is dry, faintly bitter, and woody, before slowly warming into something amber-like, with the fullness of leather. Like a pair of warm, weathered hands, resting gently over the ache you have not dared to touch.

The fractures life leaves behind, once allowed to be seen and held with tenderness, can in time become the very strength that protects us.

Letting a scar exist, without hiding its fragility, is where healing begins.

Grounded in the present, spoken through scent.
