At the windswept point of the Hengchun Peninsula, the down-slope wind blows for half the year.

Where other plants retreat, one tree chooses to root itself straight into the wind.

Resistant to wind, drought and salt, the Hengchun Machilus is a species found only in Taiwan,

living out its most resilient form under the harshest conditions.

Yet its scent carries nothing rough — soft with an edge of strength, elegant and sweet.

Like a gentle person who holds an unshaken strength at the core.
