You were light to begin with.
We tend to assume that lightness is arrived at by subtraction. Put things down, let things go — as though being light were a state you earn only after carrying something heavy long enough.
Frankincense and myrrh belong to the family Burseraceae, and most of its resins turn up in temples and meditation halls: thick, sweet, settling downward. Breu branco comes from the same family and is the lightest of them. Its lightness was not the reward for anything set down. It was there from the beginning.
It opens clean and bright, with sun-warmed pine behind it and a faint sweetness that arrives late and does not insist. The molecules are light enough that the scent never settles; it drifts outward instead, as though it meant to take you somewhere far from here.
In the Amazon, when a trunk is broken open, the tree pushes out resin to close the gap. The resin hardens and falls, and someone gathers the pieces and works them into the seams of a canoe, and the water stays out. What the tree made to mend itself is what lets a person set off.
You do not have to be heavy first to deserve to be light. May this drifting, unhurried scent return you to the lightness that was always yours.
Grounded in the present, spoken through scent.
