小眾，本身就是一種出眾
我們總會害怕自己與多數人不同。
怕自己喜歡的事物太冷門，怕自己的步調不夠主流，或許我們會下意識地磨平自己的稜角，試圖去迎合多數人的喜好。
卡羅花的存在，卻為「小眾」給出了另一種美好的詮釋。
它生長在西非高原的岩石坡上，是一株外表不起眼的灌木。它不會為了討好誰而四季常開；一年之中，只有在旱季結束、第一場雨落下之後，花朵才會綻放，而且採收期極其短暫。鮮花一旦摘下，當天就必須處理完畢。
它只按自己的節奏生長，不輕易妥協。因此，它的產量極少，多數人一生中可能從未講過它的名字，甚至連一張清晰的照片都難以尋覓。
但這份低調與冷門，並不代表它缺乏價值。相反，它的氣味充滿了令人驚艷的張力。
初聞是一陣濃烈的白花香，宛如大花茉莉，底下卻浮動著熱帶水果與香蕉的微甜。當香氣隨著體溫慢慢化開，會轉成帶有蜜意與晚香玉般的溫潤奶感，尾段更留著一絲橙皮朱古力的深沉。它的香氣層次豐富而多變，無法被單一的詞彙輕易裝下。
正因為它如此獨特，這朵鮮為人知的花，其實一直安靜地存在於許多經典香水的核心配方裡，歷經數十年依然無可替代。
它沒有迎合全世界的打算，也不追求被所有人叫得出名字。它只是在屬於自己的角落裡，把自身的獨特發揮到了極致。
願你在這抹馥郁多變的花香裡明白，不必害怕成為那個獨特的少數。

Being few is not being less.
Most of us learn early to round off our edges. We worry that what we love is too obscure, that our pace is out of step, and so we quietly put the odd parts of ourselves away.
Karo karounde never learned that.
The shrub grows on rocky upland slopes in the highlands of West Africa, plain to look at and easy to walk past. It does not flower to be obliging. It blooms once a year, only after the dry season breaks and the first rains have come, and the picking is over almost as soon as it starts. Cut flowers cannot wait; they have to be processed the same day.
Living on terms that strict keeps the yield very small. Most people will never say the name aloud, and a clear photograph of the plant is still hard to find.
Small, though, is not the same as slight. The scent opens full and white, as heady as jasmine grandiflorum, with tropical fruit and banana moving underneath. As it warms it turns to honey and the waxy cream of tuberose, and closes on something near orange peel and dark chocolate. No single word has ever held it.
That is why this barely known flower has sat at the centre of classic perfume formulas for decades, and why nothing has replaced it.
It made no attempt to win the world over. It only went as far as its own nature allowed, in its own corner, and that turned out to be far enough.
